I'm not much for resolutions; I prefer plans.
Since I decided late last year to start triathlons, this year the sky's the limit. I started training at the beginning of June, which is late. I didn't even train for the swim and I got my bike 3 weeks before my first event. If I don't improve this year, I'm doing something seriously wrong.
I received a magnetic bike trainer for Christmas, so it's set up in the basement. I got the idea from
Giving it a Tri, who has a sweet setup in his garage. I don't have a bike computer to calculate distance, so I just go by time.
I can swim at the local pool for free under the city employment plan. It's a bit of a pain since it's public time, and not everyone is there to train, but I'll make do.
Winter running is great, since there's very little sweating. We need more snow for skiing, but it's coming.
So I'm all set. I just have to get rid of this cold.
Happy New Year!
It's official. A green Christmas in Sudbury, Ontario. I think this is the 2nd one in my lifetime. No skiing, no outdoor hockey, no ice fishing. Just cold days but no snow. There is ice on the lakes, so skating may be a possibility soon. On a lighter note, it's nice weather for running.
I've been sabotaged.
Above freezing temps have forced the closure of xc ski trails up here. Just when I was hitting my stride. And it's been raining non stop this week.
This may be a green Christmas.
10K. I hear people talk about it all the time. "I ran a quick 10K this morning" blah, blah, blah. Well for me, it is long. I've got a long way to go. It looks like sprint triathlons for the near future, but at least I have something to shoot for.
Maybe a 10K without walk breaks, to start.
I've finally figured out how to add a favicon to my site. So if you happen to bookmark my blog, there will be a little maltese cross beside the page title. The cross is actually the logo for the Sudbury Professional Firefighters Association - Local 527 (my association). Cool, eh?
You may notice that I've changed from the title "Triathlon Lad" to "Hammer's Tri Bootcamp". The truth is, the original title was off the top of my head, just to get the page rolling. It was never meant to be permenant.
Hammer has been my nickname since college. It's almost my real name now, since I am rarely addressed by my own name. The boot camp part is my military buff side. I've never served, but I am an amature military historial, and I draw motivation from military subjects. I often listen to cadence when I run.
So this is my new launch, for what it's worth. Hopefully it pushes me to post more.
Hey, guess what.
SNOWWWWWWWW!
The trail by my house opened on Dec. 2, the earliest I can remember.
My skis have been waxed for 2 weeks just waiting. The club had anticipated a Dec. 27 opening, so this is fantastic.
Frankenstein (my bike) has been put away (I have been hinting at an indoor trainer for Christmas). I'm pool swimming quite a bit now, and I run a bit. But I'm going to put in a zillion kms skiing.
Wahoo!
