The clinic was fantastic!
Sunday at Laurentian University.
The day started with a 1500m swim, with lots of drills and sprints. I'm anxiously awaiting the underwater video of my stroke!
Then it was on to the bike. Since we're in Northern Ontario, we used indoor trainers. We had a great 1 hour and 20 minute spin, with a screen showing some Ironman highlights and stories.
Then it was time for a "Yoga for Athletes" class. I think I'm hooked on yoga. I felt terrific after the class (although some parts of the lesson were painful) and the feeling continued into the week.
A delicious catered lunch was followed by a slideshow from our host, Mike Coughlin. He spent 6 months travelling the south Pacific and training for triathlon. He had highlights of some of his Ironman races as well.
We weren't sure about the indoor run, since there wasn't a track, but we did a warm-up and spent some time doing sprints and drills in a long hallway. This was the part of the day where I learned the most. My running has been weak, so I absorbed a lot of knowledge.
Before I knew it , it was over. Mike sent an email saying that we did over 5 hours of activity; a first for me.
More than anything, this seminar showed me that I'm in better shape than I thought, and with a little motivation, I can go longer and farther that I imagined.
